The Phoenix Suns certainly are a professional basketball team, based in Phoenix, Arizona. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

O-n January 22, 1968, the NBA granted expansion franchises to a property class from Phoenix and one from Milwaukee.

The primary people in the Phoenix team at its beginning had close ties to Tucson, Arizona's second-largest city. They were:

Richard Bloch, a Southern California investment broker/real property developer and former Tucson resident (no relation to the Richard Bloch who was the co-founder of tax planning provider H&R Block).

Karl Eller, manager of a major outdoor advertising business and among the Phoenix area's most powerful business leaders at that time. H-e was a former football player for Your University of Arizona;

Donald Pitt, a Tucson-based attorney;

Don Diamond, Tucson-based real estate investor who eventually replaced Eller on the control managing group.

All men were alumni of-the University of Arizona. Based on the history part of the web site, other buyers in the Suns involved notable entertainers such as Andy Williams and Henry Mancini.

In line with the Suns site, the original emblem was designed by Stanley Fabe, owner of the Tucson printing company, for $200.

The new Suns control team hired former Chicago Bulls executive Jerry Colangelo to become general manager (he was 2-8 years of age when he took the career). Colangelo in turn used Johnny 'Red' Kerr (as of this writing a broadcaster with the Bulls) to be the first head coach of the Suns. Kerr was forced to re-sign midway through-the 1969-70 period, and Colangelo herself trained a few activities. Cotton Fitzsimmons changed Colangelo as Suns coach for the 1970-71 period. H-e took the staff to their first winning season, with a final record of 48-34. Get new information about http://ugrad.eller.arizona.edu/about/team/vyee.asp by browsing our lofty use with.
